"Sometimes the ills of life are so abound, that the dark of despair enfolds us round. 'Til the soul recalls in fervent prayer: It is morning - always - morning somewhere."
The poet expressed well the plight that we go through in this life - "ills enfold us round". But she doesn't leave us there to wallow in self pity. Instead she leads us to the fact that "it is morning somewhere".
The New Year doesn't mean less "ills" nor the riddance of old ones. It reminds me of the two Indians watching a lighthouse being built. After it was finished a heavy fog moved in. The one Indian said to the other, "Ugh, light shine, bell ring, horn blow, but fog come in just the same."
The New Year has no promise of less fog, troubles or distress; but as the song writer says it, "I don't know about tomorrow.... but I know Who holds tomorrow and I know Who holds my hand."
Jesus' promise is, "And, lo, I am with you alway even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:20
"And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unkown."
