About Us...

Precious Life began in March of 1985, when a group of concerned individuals and religious leaders met to discuss the need for a pregnancy care ministry that might offer alternatives to abortion and provide support to young women who chose to carry their babies to term.

The beginnings were humble, operating a 24-hour hotline from a borrowed office at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Altoona. In August of '85, a small home was purchased at 1212 15th Street and services were expanded to include Maternity clothes, baby clothes and baby furniture.

In March of 1986, pastor Scott Manganella, having resigned his church in Portage to enter crisis pregnancy work full time, was hired as the Director of Precious Life. Seeing the need for a Maternity Home that could house young women who were displaced from their homes, Precious Life purchased a beautiful home on Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg and in April of 1988, the Precious Life Maternity Home was officially opened. Since its inception, the Maternity Home has housed over 150 women.

In 1993 Precious Life opened a sister office in Bedford, PA which is currently under the direction of Wendy Lichvar. In 1996, PRECIOUS LIFE expanded again with a ministry in Johnstown, PA under the direction of Linda Lee.

In 1994 Precious Life purchased a building on 1716 12th Ave., which increased our office space, storage capabilities and provides some additional housing options.  This location is under the direction of Janelle Streets.

With our three office sites in three different counties, the Maternity Home and long term housing options, Precious Life has grown into a full fledged, multi-service ministry that can truly meet the needs of young women in crisis pregnancies.
